Licensing & Certification Guide

If your boiler is newly installed or recently replaced, it must be registered and inspected within 30 days. Your boiler may also need to be inspected regularly to ensure it is working safely.

Some local governments require businesses with physical locations to get a mercantile license. Each town or city will have its own application process for the mercantile license.

• A Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) Entity Identification Number (EIN) is required before registering a vehicle

• You must apply for a title in person. Complete the appropriate form(s) and take them to any NJ MVC vehicle center (or complete the forms on site). Be sure to make an appointment online before showing up.

Your business vehicles must have a valid license plate and registration card to be legally driven on public roads. This includes:

• Trucks, vans, or other vehicles that exceed a certain weight limit (usually over 10,000 pounds)
• Vehicles used to carry freight
• Vehicles used to carry passengers, such as taxis, limousines, and buses

Typically, when you purchase a new vehicle from a New Jersey dealer, they register it for you as part of the sales process. If you opt out, or have a vehicle that was registered out of state, you, as the buyer, are responsible for registering it in NJ.

You may need a title for any vehicles owned by your business.

Typically, if you purchase a new vehicle from a New Jersey dealer, you will get a title as part of the sales process. If you opt out of this, you as the buyer are responsible for completing this process within 10 days of the vehicle's purchase.

You also need to apply for a title if your vehicle:

• Has a title from a state outside of New Jersey
• Has a title owned by anyone other than the present business owner
• Has a title including a lien you want removed, or if you want to add a lien to the title
• Does not have a title (this is rare)
• Is a boat or watercraft (vessel), longer than 12 feet, that is owned by someone other than the intended business owner

An annual license applicant is ready to manufacture, cultivate or sell cannabis. Your application will need to include information on your business location, local zoning approval, and a summary of your operations.

To get started with your cannabis business, apply for a conditional cannabis license. This is a temporary license that gives you up to 165 days to find a location, get municipal approval, and apply for a conversion license (which you need to operate).

You need to obtain a conversion license to fully operate your cannabis business. A conditional license is temporary and limits the activities your business can do. It may take around 90 days for your application to be reviewed.

You must apply for an individual approval for your carnival or amusement ride if it doesn't have a type certification. You need an individual approval for each ride before you can get a ride permit.

You must get a ride permit to own and/or operate a carnival or amusement ride in New Jersey.

To own and operate a cemetery business in New Jersey, you need a Certificate of Authority. Your cemetery business must be a nonprofit.
