Licensing & Certification Guide

Keep in mind:

• To register, you have to get a tax clearance certificate. This document shows that your business is in good standing with taxes
• You can only get registration decals for business vehicles registered as commercial vehicles. Passenger (Pass) or passenger-commercial (Pass-Com) vehicle registrations are not acceptable
• This registration does not allow you to transport waste for others. If you need to do that, apply for an A-901 license
• You need to register as a self-generator solid and medical waste transporter if you transport waste generated by your business

Before you can rent out a one- or two-family home, you need an inspection and certificate that confirms the following devices are installed and working:

• Smoke detectors
• Carbon monoxide detectors
• Fire extinguishers

Contact your Local Enforcing Agency (LEA) to schedule an inspection. Your LEA can be the local fire department or the state Division of Fire Safety.

If your nonprofit plans to serve or sell alcohol in open containers at an event, you need a Social Affair Permit. This permit is given by New Jersey’s Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC). Submit your application at least 22 days before the event date.

Only a member of the New Jersey Bar may legally practice law in New Jersey.

In order to become a member, you may apply to take the State Bar Exam, or you may apply for admission to the State Bar by transferring your Uniform Bar Examination (UBE) Score.
